MANGALORE: Stationmasters belonging to the Mangalore branch of All India Stationmasters' Association (ASMA) and Mangalore branch of Dakshin Railway Employees' Union staged a dharna and demonstration in front of the Hampankatta railway station here on Wednesday to protest against a senior officer of the Southern Railway, who they alleged is harassing them by curbing their "human rights." Over 35 stationmasters took part in the demonstration. The leaders, who addressed the gathering, accused the Senior Divisional Operations Manager, Palghat Division, Southern Railway, of transferring the officers without valid reason. The Station Masters have been denied leave. And most of them are not able to avail themselves of their casual leave, they alleged. They alleged that the official was interfering in the trade union rights of the employees and curbing their human rights. They alleged that the official was interfering unnecessarily in the daily administrative matters. For minor lapses, the officers have been denied leave, they alleged. The stationmasters sent a memorandum to the General Manager, Southern Railway, Chennai; Chief Operations Manager, Southern Railway and Member, Traffic Railway Board, requesting them to look into the matter.
