Cooperative bank completes 100 years

Chennai: Completing 100 years is a memorable occasion for any organisation, be it a private or public sector concern.

The State Apex Co-operative Bank, popularly known as TNSC Bank, with 43 branches in the City, is now in its 100th year of operation. No major function has so far been organised to celebrate the event.

Started in 1905, it is the oldest cooperative bank in the State. In its centenary year, the top posts of Special Officer and General Manager remain vacant. An IAS officer is holding additional charge as a special officer, who the bank employees said is unable to take any major decision. Due to this, no function could be organised to mark the centenary of the bank.

Union leaders planned to organise celebrations with the participation of the Chief Minister.

But the Chief Minister could not give a date, as she was busy with flood relief work, with the result that the centenary of the oldest cooperative bank went unnoticed.

Meanwhile, the bank employees on their own conducted blood donation camps and distributed relief to flood hit people as part of the centenary year of the bank.
