Conmen make off with jewellery

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI : Confidence tricksters cheated two women residents on Tuesday and took away jewellery weighing 15 sovereigns from them.

The first incident was reported from the Kotwal Chavadi police limits, where the culprits approached Rajalakshmi at her house on the pretext of polishing jewellery. Believing them, she handed over her jewellery to the youth. They returned the jewellery after some time, and asked her to put it in a pressure cooker for half an hour to get the polish.

When the victim opened the cooker, she was shocked to notice the jewellery missing. The conmen decamped with jewellery weighing 13 sovereigns.

The second incident took place on Subburayalu Street, where the same youths accosted 55-year-old Vijayalakshmi to polish her ornaments. The woman lost a two sovereign chain. The Seven Wells police are investigating.
