Warning to latecomers

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Activists of Janapaksham, a non-governmental organisation based in Kochi, organised a protest with a difference in front of a Government office in Ernakulam South on Thursday.

Their aim was to hold the officials accountable for their actions. They lay in wait outside the office to catch those who came in late.

"Some officials reached the office as late as 11.55 a.m., though the office time is 10 a.m. On being questioned, some asked `Why are you bothered?' And we gave a befitting reply: `You are paid salary from the tax we pay,'" says Benny Joseph, State convenor of Janapaksham.

The District Collector has promised to initiate action against latecomers, who put people to hardship.

People dare not protest, fearing the collective mite of officials, Mr. Benny said.
