MYSORE: Kala Utsav, an exhibition of handicrafts and handloom items produced by artisans from throughout the country, has come to Mysore two months ahead of schedule, courtesy bad weather in Chennai. The incessant rainfall in Chennai forced the Maharashtra Craft Development Council to advance its exhibition-cum-sale in Mysore by two months. A wide array of handicraft and handloom items, including precious and semi-precious stone jewellery, Hyderabadi pearls, Jaipuri bangles, Rajasthani Bandhani suits, ghagra choli, Punjabi phulkari, hand-woven dress material, Lucknavi suits and saris are on display at Sahakara Bhavan on Chamaraja Double Road in Mysore. The exhibition, which opened on Wednesday, will remain open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. till December 28. Thirty artisans from different parts of India will be demonstrating their work. "It is a dazzling display of handicrafts from Kashmir to Kanyakumari," exhibition convener Rajesh Dangayachi said. The exhibition will move to Chikmagalur and Gulbarga from Mysore. "We held an exhibition of our products in Bangalore about six months ago. The response was encouraging," he said. Among the other items on display at the exhibition are inkpots, Jaipuri bedcovers and cushion covers, and handloom bags from Panipat.
