Sufficient security for India's Pakistan tour

Lahore: Ahead of the arrival of a six-member delegation from India to review the arrangements for Indian team's tour of Pakistan beginning in January, the PCB tried to allay concerns saying that the security would exceed visitors' expectations.

Team India is all set to arrive here on January 6 to play three Test and five one-dayers in their about a month long tour.

The delegation, comprising the BCCI officials including Raj Singh Dungarpur, Professor Ratnakar Shetty and G.S. Walia apart from the Indian government officials, will visit Pakistan from December 24 to 28.

``So far we've received names of their three board officials who'll come. But they've yet to confirm the names of their government officials,'' a PCB official was quoted as saying by The News.

``We've already made security arrangements which are more than what the Indians are expecting,'' he said and added, ``they are welcome to send their delegation. But we've prepared a well-laid out and effective security plan for them. It's state-level security. Their visit is basically to coordinate with our security officials.''

The BCCI on Tuesday said the government had in principle approved the tour to Pakistan but needed some security assurances for playing a Test match in Karachi. In their tour in 2004 as well, India had send a security delegation in advance to Pakistan to review arrangements and visit all the match venues. — UNI
