HUBLI: The 61-foot monolithic statue of Bhagavan Parshwanath Teerthankar will be installed on a 48-foot pedestal at the Navagraha Teerth at Varur near here on Friday. The work of bringing the tallest statue of a Jain Teerthankar to the "Khadgasan mudra" (standing position) from the "Shayan mudra" (sleeping position) has been accomplished. Petron, an America-based company, used a crane with a capacity to lift 800 tonnes of load to bring the monolithic statue weighing 185 tonnes to the "Khadgasan mudra".
Cranes
The work on the statue began almost a year ago and even though the statue was ready, its weight had made it difficult to change its position. Some of the cranes that had been brought to the place for the purpose could not hold the load and were sent back. At 11 a.m. on Friday, the statue would be installed on the pedestal with a formal consecration ceremony. Jain Muni Sri Gunadhar Nandi Maharaj, who has been supervising the work, will be present. Preparations have been made for lifting the statue to a height of 48 feet. Various religious rituals will be conducted during the consecration ceremony. After the consecration ceremony, the construction of the Navagraha Teerth would resume, which is expected to take another year for completion. The work is being taken up under the aegis of Jain Dharmasena Bhattarak Pattacharya Mutt.
