PONDICHERRY: One person was killed and three others were injured in a clash between fishermen at Bommyarpalayam in Villupuram district on Thursday evening. Rajkumar (40) was attacked with a knife and he died of multiple injuries at the General Hospital. The condition of the other three men was reported to be stable. Several other villagers also sustained minor injuries, mostly due to stone throwing. Due to the dispute over the tsunami relief, the villagers were divided into two camps. The clash was in the aftermath of a person from one group allegedly misbehaving with a woman belonging to the opposite camp, Elongovan, DSP, Villupuram, told The Hindu. The situation was brought under control after the police chased away the clashing groups.
Stone-throwing
After some time miscreants threw stones at a house and the police again chased them away. They conducted a search along the shore and picked up a person for questioning. A strong posse of police personnel has been posted in the village to prevent any untoward incident.
