NEW BEGINNING: N.Sadasivam, Deputy General Manager, SBI, inaugurating an ATM in Dindigul on Thursday.
DINDIGUL: State Bank of India would install 15 Automated Teller Machines in Madurai zone comprising 136 branches in nine districts shortly. It would install ATMs at important railway stations, said N. Sadasivam, Deputy General Manager, SBI, Madurai Zone. After inaugurating 62nd ATM at the Nehruji Nagar Branch here on Thursday, he told reporters that the credit-deposit Ratio of Madurai zone had touched 110 per cent. Total advances was Rs.3,200 crores. Agriculture advances had tripled in three years: it was Rs.620 crores this year and Rs.261crores in March 2004. A major portion was given to purchase tractors. Special schemes were designed for self-help groups and horticulturists. Special schemes to cater to needs of specific areas have been introduced. `Grape Plus' was a special scheme meant for grape growers in Cumbum valley with less interest and low margin money. Another scheme, suitable for salt producers, was introduced in Tuticorin. The bank has tie-up with Ashok Leyland and Tata for extending loan for light and heavy commercial vehicles. The main branch in the town would be fully modernised before March 2006 providing more space for customers before counters. It would be fully air-conditioned and adequate seating facility would be created. Introduction of multi-city cheque system and opening of extension centres at the Collectorate to ease crowd at the main branch were under consideration. There was a plan to introduce seven-day banking at Nehruji Nagar branch and extend working hours of the main branch from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. R. Suriya Narayanan, Assistant General Manager, main branch, said housing loan fortnight would be celebrated from December 20 to extend loans. One per cent concession on interest would be given. There would be no processing fee or hidden charge. Internet banking has been provided to 780 customers. This facility would be extended to more customers.
