Probe ordered into alleged rape incident in train

PATNA: Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Thursday ordered an enquiry into the terror unleashed, including the alleged rape of a woman, by miscreants in a general coach of the Lucknow-bound Pushpak Express near Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday night.

Mr. Prasad said he had directed Chairman of the Railway Board J.P. Batra to enquire into the entire episode right from the looting of the passengers by an armed group of eight to 10 persons and the alleged rape of a woman by two of them in the toilet.

Expressing sorrow over the incident, the Railway Minister maintained that the woman concerned was reluctant to undergo a medical examination.

He also denied that any passenger was thrown out of the running train.

Assault denied

The woman, who was allegedly raped in the Lucknow-bound Pushpak Express from Mumbai by a group of armed men, refused to go in for medical examination denying the assault, Uttar Pradesh Home Secretary Alok Sinha said here.

An FIR claiming that passengers were robbed of about Rs 50,000 has been registered in Jhansi and would be later transferred to GRP in Madhya Pradesh as the incident took place there, Mr. Sinha said. — PTI
