Congress goes back on poll promises: Chandrababu Naidu

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu and Polit Bureau member T. Devender Goud on Thursday said that the Congress reneged on pre-poll promises and that the need of the hour was to improve awareness among the people on this aspect.

Mr. Naidu was speaking at the party headquarters after welcoming some two-dozen Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders from the Tandur Municipality in the adjoining Ranga Reddy district.

Those who switched loyalties included TRS floor leader in the council S. Raju Goud and a councillor N. Narender Goud.

The TDP chief recalled the developmental works initiated when he was in power and said that all the progress achieved by the TDP had come to a halt during the Congress regime.

"We put the ambitious 120-km Outer Ring Road project in motion. But now, it has run into rough weather with Congress leaders putting individual interests before public good, and some diversions being proposed are resulting in farmers losing their land," he said.

Integrated Andhra

Mr. Naidu reiterated the TDP's stand on Telangana, saying it had always been and would be in favour of an integrated Andhra and take up backward area development schemes on a war-footing wherever and in whichever sector it was required. Any development the State had seen had only been in the erstwhile TDP regime, he repeated.

Others present included Ranga Reddy district Zilla Parishad chairman K. Gnaneswar, Parigi MLA Hareeswar Reddy and TDP district president Mahender Reddy.
