An eventful year for RK Mission

NEW DELHI: Ramakrishna Mission spent Rs.5.22 crores this past year on relief operations in the tsunami-affected areas. During the last fiscal, it undertook extensive relief and rehabilitation programmes in several parts of the country involving an expenditure of Rs.13.05 crores.

This was announced at the 96th annual general meeting of the Mission held at Belur Math in West Bengal over the weekend, according to a press release here.

During 2004-05, the Mission started a new centre at the site of the birthplace and ancestral house of Swami Vivekananda under the name Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda's Ancestral Hone and Cultural Centre.

The Mission also set up an eye-care unit at its dispensary in Patna, a telemedicine service unit at its polyclinic in Lucknow and a blood bank at its Vrindavan hospital.

Under the Ramakrishna Math, three new centres were started including one at Bindweide in Germany.

It also opened a nursery school building at Mekhliganj ashram in West Bengal, a school building at Kalady in Kerala and a dispensary building at Ulsoor in Bangalore.

The Mission also provided scholarships worth Rs.3.36 crores to poor students besides spending Rs.39.59 crores on its medical services. It also completed rural and tribal development projects worth Rs.10.63 crores in different parts of the country.
