KURNOOL: K. Ramakrishna, state secretary of Andhra Pradesh Raithu Sangham, affiliated to the CPI, said the State conference of the sangham, scheduled to be held between January 9 and 11 here, would focus on irrigation projects. Talking to reporters here on Thursday, he said the irrigation projects proposed in the backward areas be completed first rather than giving equal priority to all. Mr. Ramakrishna advised the TDP to play the role of a responsible party by taking a stand that is acceptable to all regions. One could understand the argument of the TRS, which spoke for only Telengana people but TDP, which was in power for long, should not emit confusing signals both for its cadre and people. Mr. Ramakrishna underscored the need for removing the misconceptions about the irrigation projects in other regions. He welcomed the debate at all-party meetings on important projects Polavaram and Pothireddypadu regulator widening works.
Crop insurance
The CPI leader urged the Government for implementing the comprehensive crop insurance scheme for groundnut farmers who suffered heavy losses this year. He urged the Government to pay compensation of Rs. 2,000 per acre.
