Inspired by the Chennai Open Tennis 2006 tournament, school and college students have sent in over 9,000 entries for the two contests conducted by IMG, the tournament organisers. The panel of judges includes former Indian tennis star Vijay Amritraj, V. Narayanan, president, Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA), and Ravi Krishnan, Managing Director - IMG-TWI South Asia. The Chennai Open Identity contest winner will be announced soon, organisers say. The winner will get a cash prize of Rs.50,000 and the chance to have the designs utilised during the Chennai Open 2007. The Mascot contest winner gets a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and a chance to have the design incorporated into the Chennai Open as its official mascot. The `identity competition' invited college students to design the entire identity for the Chennai Open 2007 such as hoarding designs, poster and collateral designs, print advertisement designs, letterheads, visiting cards, bus shelter designs, balloon and inflatable designs. The Mascot competition invited school students to design a mascot for the Chennai Open 2006, keeping in mind the feel and traditions of the city. Staff Reporter
