Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Chromepet including Radha Nagar, Bhartipuram, Kurinji Nagar, Senthil Nagar and Fathima Nagar; Komakkambedu, Ramapuram, Koduval, Thamaraipakkam, Magaral, Guruvoyal and Karanbatti villages in Ellapuram near Tiruvallur on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Emergency control room wound up

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has closed down the temporary emergency control room in view of the improved weather conditions. Consumers can henceforth contact `1912' for redress of power failure.

RBF likely to release money

The Royapettah Benefit Fund (RBF) Ltd. is likely to release five per cent of deposited money to depositors before Pongal, said a release from the RBF Depositors Welfare Association. The Association advises those who have not already received the previous 20 per cent released by the RBF to contact the Association at 3/6, Ananda Buildings, Station Road, West Mambalam, or the RBF.

Health camp

The Lions Club of Madras Velachery celebrated its 22nd anniversary by organising a diabetes awareness camp in association with Kilpauk police at the Kerala Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School on the Poonamallee High Road on Sunday. Screening for cataract, eye testing, blood donation camp and diabetes screening were also conducted. Fourteen persons were referred for cataract surgery, 12 diagnosed for diabetes and 29 units of blood collected.

Book sale

The Theosophical Society is holding a book exhibition from December 26 to 31, alongside the 130th International Convention in Adyar, at the Society premises on Besant Avenue and in its Adyar Bookshop, opposite Malar Hospitals. Books of the Theosophical Publishing House and the Adyar Library & Research Centre will be available at 33 per cent discount. Audio and videocassettes, CDs, incense sticks, greeting cards and new arrivals from Quest Books, United States, are some of the other products on offer.

Gita competition

The Egmore Samskrt School will be conducting the fourth Gita recitation competition for the general public, including students, from January 27 to 29, 2006. The last date for receipt of applications is December 31. Contact 26424721 or 42027151 .

Snake Park photo exhibition

The Chennai Snake Park will be holding a photo exhibition on snakes and other reptiles from December 23 - 26. B. Vijayaraghavan, Chairman, Chennai Snake Park Trust, will open it at 10 a.m. on Friday.

Oratorical contest

Students at the GSS Jain College for Women organised an oratorical competition on Tuesday. Purvi Hirani, B.B.A. second year student won the first prize.
