CHENNAI: Sembium police on Thursday arrested a three-member gang involved in stealing bicycles and recovered a dozen bicycles. Police said the arrested were Jeeva (29) of Vetri Nagar and Shabeer (19) of Madurai Madam in Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar and Dinesh (18) of Yegangipuram, Otteri. The gang stole expensive bicycles from residential areas in and around Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar and sold them for Rs. 300 in Anna Nagar and Villivakkam areas. The threehave been remanded to judicial custody.
Burglar held
Peravallur police arrested Ramesh (38) of Perambur and said they had recovered stolen gold jewellery from him on Thursday. Police said Ramesh targeted houses with doors kept open for ventilation at night. He would snatch jewellery from the sleeping inmates and flee. Police said he faced charges for similar offences in Peravallur and Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar areas. He was remanded to judicial custody.
Relieved of jewellery
A 35-year-old woman was relieved of seven sovereigns of jewellery on Wednesday. Police said Suganthi (35) of Ramavaram, who sold flowers on the pavement at T. Nagar, met a woman who befriended her three days ago. She lured Suganthi into believing that she would get her a job. Believing her, the victim accompanied the woman on Wednesday to Anna Square, where she was offered some food by an acquaintance of the woman who befriended her. Ms. Suganthi fell unconscious,and woke up only to find the jewellery missing.
