Woman tonsured on charge of witchcraft
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD
: Members of a family allegedly tonsured a 60-year-old woman accusing her of performing witchcraft at Thondpally village of Shamshabad in Ranga Reddy district on Thursday.
The victim, Mallamma, was passing by the house of a farmer Siddulu, 25, around 7.30 a.m. when the later and his family members dragged her into their house. "They began abusing and beating me alleging that I was responsible for the death of his 12-year-old sister seven years ago," Shamshabad Inspector Ramakanth Rao quoted the victim as saying. Siddulu's parents Mallaiah and Mallamma also allegedly assaulted the woman.
Later, they brought her out, tied to a pole, called a barber and got her head tonsured as villagers remained mute spectators. The police took into custody Siddulu, his family members and the barber. They were being questioned.
