Increase capacity of other projects: CPI (M)
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
Welcoming the Government's decision to amend the G.O. 170, the State committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)on Thursday, however, said that enhancement in the capacity of the Pothireddypadu head regulator alone would not serve the irrigation and drinking water needs of the drought-prone areas..
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, party State secretary B.V. Raghavulu said that the Government should take steps to increase the capacity of SLBC, Kalwakurthy and Veligonda projects to ensure that irrigation facilities were provided to Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar and Prakasam districts. On the Government's claim that it was trying to utilise over 500 tmcft of Krishna water going waste into the sea annually, he said the move to increase the capacity of Pothireddypadu would only help save 70 tmcft of water.
