Elected to plan panel

KOCHI: C.K. Manisankar, Deputy Mayor, and T.J. Vinod of UDF have been elected to the District Planning Committee. While Mr. Manisankar and Mr. Vinod bagged 24 votes each, K.V. Manoj, the second nominee of the LDF failed to make it to the committee, as he polled only 22 votes. The UDF candidate got an extra vote in the election. The UDF has 23 members in the council whereas the LDF 46. The other members of the council are BJP (one member) and an Independent. — Staff Reporter

Gas cylinders seized

KOCHI: A special squad set up by the District Collector has seized 10 cooking gas cylinders from an illegal refilling station at Thanipadam, near North Paravur. — Staff Reporter

Photo exhibition

KOCHI: A photo exhibition on tsunami will be held at the Kakkanad Civil Station here from Friday. The exhibition is organised by the District Information Office in association with the Kochi Photojournalists Forum and the district administration. On Saturday, the show will be held near Subhash Park and on Monday at the Edavanakkad KPMHS. — Staff Reporter

Award for artist

KOCHI: The Sahodaran Ayyappan Award for 2005 will be given to artist Namboothiri. The award carries a cash prize of Rs.10,000 and certificate.— Staff Reporter
