THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two persons, hailing from the coastal areas of Puthukkurichi primary health centre have been diagnosed with dengue fever. They were among nine persons who were admitted to the Medical College Hospital here following fever. All the nine persons have been discharged, according to a press release quoting District Medical Officer E.K. Madhavan. Minister for Health K.K. Ramachandran has given directions to provide emergency medical care to people affected with dengue fever in the coastal areas of Puthukkurichi. Directions have also been given to control its outbreak in the locality in future. Experts from Prevention of Epidemic Diseases Cell, Community Medicine, Micro Biology and Entomology have also visited the coastal area to assess the gravity of the situation. Meanwhile, a mosquito study team headed by a biologist has been deputed in the coastal area coming under the Puthukkurichi primary health centre. Fogging, spraying and removal of garbage have been stepped up in the area and awareness classes are being conducted to prevent any outbreak in the future. People of the locality with symptoms of fever have been urged to seek treatment from hospitals.
