This Day That Age
One of the most important causes of student indiscipline and unrest was the unwieldy numbers, which made personal contact between the teachers and the pupils impossible, declared the Vice-President, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, while presiding over the 79th anniversary celebration of the Pfeiffer Memorial High School at Renigunta on December 22. Pointing out that one of the defects of the present educational system was that it did not train the pupils to bring to bear an active mind on problems, he stressed the need to develop the habit of reading and reflection. He said he was delighted to take part in the anniversary celebrations of the school, where he was a student 55 years ago (from 1896 to 1900). Though he could not claim to have been a particularly good student when he was in the school, one thing he could vouch for was the great consideration and attachment which the teachers of the school had for the pupils. He hoped that though the venue of the school had changed, as also the management, the tradition of love and attachment for the pupils still continued.
