Erode
Staff Reporter
ERODE: Over 150 trains operate via Erode railway junction and more than 4,500 passengers board or get down at the station. The Union Railway Ministry has decided to develop the station granted Rs 5.50 crores for improvements to the station, said an official on Friday.
Work on platforms
The present first and second platforms would be extended to accommodate engine and 26 compartments. Similarly the third and fourth platforms would be developed to park 22 to 24 coaches. A retired Divisional Engineer Telephones, Elango appealed to the authorities to extend the roofing facilities also if the platforms were extended. The present Railway Reservation Counter and the open ticket counter are located in a congested place.
Inadequate
Only three reservation counters and two open ticket counters are functioning, which are inadequate for the passengers. So the reservation counters would be shifted to the present RMS sorting centre located on the western side of the ground floor. The RMS sorting Centre and the Railway parcel office would be shifted to a spacious place and the cycle stand removed to the place where the petroleum storage tank is located. The tank was shifted already and the place is vacant now.
