Appointed Netherlands honorary consul

CHENNAI: Akhila Srinivasan, Managing Director of Shriram Life Insurance, has been appointed honorary consul of the Netherlands.

Netherlands Ambassador Eric F. Ch. Niehe was in Chennai recently to felicitate Ms. Srinivasan and inform the State Government about her appointment, according to a press release.

Ms. Srinivasan would provide consular services to Dutch citizens visiting India and assist the Netherlands embassy in promoting goodwill and strengthening economic relations. She would help in processing visa applications and act as a point of contact for the embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Creating awareness of the Dutch culture, art and heritage in India would also be a priority. The release quoted the new consul as saying: "It is a matter of deep pride and honour for me as I take on this new role. We hope to augment our relationship with the Netherlands in all spheres of business and economy, education, science, technology and innovation and arts and culture."
