KOCHI: Activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on Friday gheraoed P.K. Abdul Azis, Vice-Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), against the alleged "backdoor appointments'' in the varsity. The district committee of the federation said in a press release on Friday that the varsity officials were trying to appoint persons of their choice for the vacancy of room boy in the university. The Kalamassery police registered cases against 22 DYFI activists for obstructing the official duties of the Vice-Chancellor. According to the police, 22 activists jumped the wall and forced themselves into the office the Vice-Chancellor at 11.45 a.m. University Registrar said in a communication that the varsity had postponed the test for selection of room boy scheduled at Vidyadhiraja Vidyabhavan on Saturday. There will be no change in the examination to the post of professional assistant (grade-2) to be held at St.Xavier's College, Aluva, on Saturday, the release said.
