NEW DELHI: Continuing with their below par performance, the Indian men drew with Vietnam after the women crashed to a shock defeat but continued to lead in the Asian team chess championship at Esfahan, Iran, on Friday. On the first of the double-round day for men, India expectedly defeated Turkmenistan 3.5-0.5 but failed to get past Vietnam in the fourth round after Abhijit Kunte surrendered to Nguyen Anh Dung on the second board. The result kept India (11 points) half a point behind joint leaders Iran `A' and Vietnam. The results: Men (fourth round): India (11) drew with Vietnam (11.5) 2-2 (K. Sasikiran drew with Dao Thein Hai; Abhijit Kunte lost to Nguyen Anh Dung; Surya Shekhar Ganguly bt Nguyen Ngoc Trong Son; Sandipan Chanda drew with Le Quang Liem); Iran `A' (11.5) bt Turkmenistan (6) 1.5-1.5; Afghanistan (1.5) lost to Iran `B' (6.5) 1-3. Third round: Turkmenistan lost to India 0.5-3.5 (Amanmurad Kakageldyev lost to Sasikiran; Sergei Kimonenko drew with Kunte; Mesgen Amanov lost to S. Kidambi; Serdar Bayramsahatov lost to Sandipan Chanda); Iran `A' bt Afghanistan 4-0; Vietnam bt Iran `B' 2.5-1.5. Women (third round): Iran `B' (4.5) bt India (5) 2-1 (Mona Salman bt Nisha Mohota; Mitra Hajezipour lost to Swati Ghate; Ghazal Hakimifard bt Anupama Gokhale); Iran `A' (4) drew with Vietnam (4.5) 1.5-1.5.
