MADURAI: The College Principals' Association has congratulated the Madurai Kamaraj University Vice-Chancellor, P. Maruthamuthu, for obtaining the `University with Potential for Excellence' recognition from University Grants Commission recently. In a press statement, the association general secretary, G. Thiruvasagam, said that the coveted status had been bagged by only two universities in the State - University of Madras and MKU. Lauding the efforts taken by the Vice-Chancellor, he said sincere attempts were made to present proposals to the UGC and all departments in the university and the affiliated colleges were also behind the success. Dr. Thiruvasagam said the Potential for Excellence Grant of Rs.30 crores to be received by the university "is one more credit to the administration in the process of enhancing resource development of MKU and its affiliated colleges." He stated that principals of all colleges affiliated to the university would extend their cooperation to the V-C and administration in all development activities to be taken up in future.
