CHENNAI: Governor Surjit Singh Barnala and various political leaders have greeted Christians on the occasion of Christmas. Conveying his greetings to all Christian brethren in the State, the Governor said: "Jesus Christ preached us humility, love and brotherhood. Let us on this solemn day rededicate ourselves to foster universal brotherhood, peace and harmony." Chief Minister Jayalalithaa described Christmas as a great day that marked the birth of Jesus Christ to relieve the humanity of its sufferings. In a message, she said Jesus was the incarnation of mercy. "Let peace and happiness prevail all over the world on this holy day which celebrates the birth of Christ." DMK president M.Karunanidhi said Jesus Christ was an embodiment of love, patience and tolerance. Even when he was crucified by His enemies, He was for forgiving them, stating that they did not know what they were doing. This, he said, showed His humanism. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president G.K. Vasan said that at a time when the State was affected by the heavy floods and rain, it would be a fitting celebration if people distributed relief to the affected. Pattali Makkal Katchi leader S. Ramadoss said the best way to celebrate Christmas this year would be to provide help to those affected by the recent floods and rain. Tamil Maanila Muslim League president S. Sheikh Dawood, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam president Vijayakanth and D.G.S. Dhinakaran of Jesus Calls also greeted Christians.
