Hari Krishna draws with Timman

NEW DELHI: Third seed P. Hari Krishna opened his campaign in the Pamplona International chess tournament by drawing with veteran Dutch Grandmaster Jan Timman at Pamplona, Spain, on Friday.

Hari drew in 39 moves of Guico Piano on a day when three of the four games ended with honours even. In the only decisive battle, Bulgarian Ivan Cheparinov defeated lowest seed Oscar De La Riva Aguado in 40 moves of Caro Kann.

The results (First round): P. Hari Krishna drew with Jan Timman (Ned); Laurent Fressinet (Fra) drew with Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukr); Zviad Isoria (Geo) drew with Sergei Tiviakov (Ned); Oscar De la Riva Aguado (And) lost to Ivan Cheparinov (Bul).
