S.R. Rangamurthy elected president of CAMPCO

Company's new Board of Directors formally constituted



ALL SET: S.R. Rangamurthy replaces L.N. Kudoor

MANGALORE: The new Board of Directors of Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd. (CAMPCO) was formally constituted on Saturday with S.R. Rangamurthy as President.

Srikrishna Bhat was elected Vice-President. The term of the new board is five years. Mr. Rangamurthy replaces L.N. Kudoor as President.

Only a formality

Saturday's elections were only a formality, as 16 directors on the 17-member board were elected unopposed. The Managing Director of the company is an ex-officio director.

Ashok G. Bhat, Headquarters Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner, who was the Returning Officer, declared that the 16 candidates had been elected unopposed.

Besides Mr. Rangamurthy, the other directors from Karnataka are Mr. Kudoor, D.B. Balakrishna, Sanjeeva Matandoor, Seetharama Bhat, Mahabala Bhat K.M., Kishore Kodgi and Thimmappa Rai.

The directors from Kerala are Karunakara Nambiyar, Shri Hari Bhat, Srikrishna Bhat, Ashok Holla, K.A. Shetty, K.M.N. Kartha, Hariharan Unni and Rajgopal.

Addressing presspersons after the elections, Mr. Rangamurthy said CAMPCO earned a profit of Rs. 8.10 crores till November in this financial year.

The company plans to import 300 tonnes of cocoa beans from Ghana at Rs. 82 or Rs. 83 a kg. It has entered into an agreement with the Jindal company for crushing 500 tonnes of cocoa beans in its chocolate factory at Puttur. Besides New Hope Industries of Tamil Nadu has approached CAMPCO for crushing cocoa beans, he said.

The chocolate factory produced semi-finished products worth Rs. 5.28 crores and chocolates worth Rs. 9.37 crores till November in this financial year. It sold semi-finished products and chocolates worth Rs. 24.32 crores during this period, he added.
