PATHANAMTHITTA: The temple town of Thiruvalla is all set for the 23rd Srimad Bhagavatha Sathram beginning on Sunday. The weeklong spiritual meet, billed the largest annual Hindu religious convention in south India, will begin with a colourful ceremonial procession from Muthoor Bhagavathy Temple to the venue, Sreevallabha Temple, on Sunday afternoon. Travancore Devaswom Board president G. Raman Nair will inaugurate the procession. Malliyoor Sankaran Namboodiri, Bhagavatha expert and Sanskrit scholar, will install a Sree Krishna idol and hoist the ceremonial flag on Vallabha temple premises at 3 p.m. Narasimha Adiga, chief priest of Kollur Mookambika Temple, will inaugurate a spiritual meeting, later. Akeeramon Kalidasa Bhattathiri, Tantri of Sreevallabha Temple, will preside over the inaugural function. The Sathra Nirvahana Samiti has made elaborate arrangements for the event. A pandal, with a seating capacity of 12,000, is ready on the northern side of the temple premises. Sidhartha Swami Maharaj will plant the peepul sapling on the temple premises. Bharatiya Vichara Kendram director P. Parameswaran will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session. Mr. Sankaran Namboodiri; P. Unnikrishnan Nair, historian; the artist Keralavarma; and Sarasamma, eldest member of Muttar Cherusserry Tharavadu; will be honoured. Tantris of eight major temples in the State will lead a Ashtadravya Ganapati homam on Brahma Muhurthom at the Sathram venue on all days.
