Murdered by brother

TIRUCHI : A 60-year old man was murdered allegedly by his own brother near Irungalur close to Samayapuram in the district on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Arokiasamy, who was a farmer.

The police here said that Arokiasamy was allegedly attacked with an aruval by his brother Rograj following a land dispute between them. The police have arrested Rograj for the murder.

The Samayapuram police have registered a case.

Two held under Goondas Act

Two persons arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of one Manickam in October in the city were detained under the Goondas Act on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Prateep V. Philip on Saturday, the police here said.

The names of the accused detained under the Goondas Act were given as Murthy (28) and Varaganeri Sekar (47).

The duo were arrested by the police on October 5 in connection with the murder. Of the 15 accused involved in the crime, the number of those detained under the Goondas Act is four now.

Bedsheets, bread distributed to flood-hit

The BHEL Kerala Samajam, a social organisation of Malayalees, distributed bedsheets and bread to the flood-affected villagers of Thondamanpatti, which suffered during the recent torrential rains, recently.

A release from the Samajam here said the members consoled the villagers and handed over the bedsheets and bread to each family.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur dam stood at 120.20 feet on Saturday.
