Letters to the Editor
The obstructive stance adopted by the BJP and the walkout staged by its members during the debate on the expulsion of the 11 MPs can hardly be appreciated. The conduct of BJP justifies its claim of being "a party with a difference."
V.K. Sathyavan Nair,
* * * Mr. Advani's contention that the expulsion is "disproportionate" to the offence committed is untenable. In my opinion, the marginalisation of the BJP in our polity, after the latest sting operation and the expulsion of a few of its MPs, is complete.
T.S. Narayana,
* * * Mr. Advani's contention that the expulsion of the MPs is a disproportionate penalty and the Lok Sabha Speaker's assertion that there is no bar on the expelled MPs contesting in future are both not right. The issue involved is corruption, which warrants imprisonment and debarring the guilty from contesting elections for a certain period of time.
R. Ganesan,
* * * The BJP's vehement opposition to the expulsion is understandable given the fact that it is the biggest loser in the episode, having to part with six MPs.
K.S. Varkey,
* * * It is surprising that the BJP, which made such a big fuss about the Volcker Report and stalled Parliament for so many days, wants to soft-pedal the present case. Is it because most of the MPs are from its ranks?
K. Venkataramani,
* * * The BJP's stand in the present sordid episode shows it is out of sync with the masses and has failed in its duty of playing the role of a responsible and sensitive Opposition party.
Prahlad Tantri,
