TUMKUR: While the Janata Dal (Secular) withdrew its demand for re-polling in some booths in Tumkur district on Saturday, the Congress continued its agitation for re-polling in 10 booths. The Janata Dal (S), which has been seeking re-polling in all booths of the Midigeshi constituency, ended its agitation when the Madhugiri Sub-divisional Magistrate promised that an inquiry will be ordered into the alleged irregularities by the election staff. The official, however, refused to conduct re-polling in the constituency. K.N. Rajanna, Janata Dal (S) MLA, said he is satisfied by the official's action. The State Election Commission did not respond to the demand by the Congress that re-polling be ordered in 10 booths of the Yediyuru constituency. Tumkur District Congress Committee President S.P. Mudduhanume Gowda alleged that the supporters of D. Nagarajaiah, Huliyurudurga MLA and Janata Dal (S) leader, rigged polls in the 10 booths. Mr. Mudduhanume Gowda accused the polling staff and policemen of conniving with the MLA and his supporters.
