Christmas celebrated with gaiety

Saffragan Metropolitan of the Malankara Mar Thoma Church is the chief guest

MERRY CHRISTMAS: The united Christmas celebrations held at the St John's Cathedral in Thiruvalla on Sunday.

PATHANAMTHITTA: Christmas was celebrated with religious fervour in Pathanamthitta on Sunday. Saffragan Metropolitan of the Malankara Mar Thoma Church Joseph Mar Ireneus was the chief guest at the celebrations.

Senior metropolitan of the Malankara Catholic Church Geevarghese Mar Themotheos delivered the benedictory speech. Thiruvalla Bishop of the Malankara Catholic Church Issac Mar Cleemis presided over the function.

Parish priest Cherian Ramanalil, Varghese Angadiyil and Preethi Binu also spoke.

The 33rd united Christmas celebrations in Kumbazha, near Pathanamthitta, was held at the Christmas Nagar on Sunday afternoon.

The celebrations began with a colourful rally from St Simon's Orthodox Cathedral to the Christmas Nagar.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adoor Prakash inaugurated the pubic meeting in connection with the celebrations.

P.K.Mathews, chairman of the celebrations committee, presided over the meeting. Auxiliary Bishop of the Malankara Catholic Church in Thiruvananthapuram Joshua Mar Ignatheos delivered the keynote address and Christmas message on the occasion.

Francis George, MP, Pathanamthitta municipal chairperson Amrutham Gokulan and Saji Alexander spoke.

A music programme was also held, later in the evening.
