ICF will not outsource components, says Lalu

Plant capacity to be improved to meet demand of coaches Assures employees that vacancies will be filled and preference will be given to wards of employees

CHENNAI: Integral Coach Factory, Perambur, will not resort to outsourcing of components in the manufacture of railway coaches. For this, the infrastructure in the ICF would be improved, said the Railway Minister Lalu Prasad here on Saturday.

Participating in the valedictory celebrations of ICF here, he said the capacity of the plant would be improved to meet the future demand of coaches .

Assuring the employees that existing vacancies would be filled, he said while doing so preference would be given to wards of employees.

Thirtyone stations in Tamil Nadu would be developed as model stations and five of the on-going 25 projects in the State would be completed before the end of the current financial year. The targeted projects were Kumbakonam-Mayiladuturai, Manamadurai-Mandapam, Tiruchi- Pudukottai and Vridhdhchalam-Attur sections and the doubling of Korukkupet-Ennore on the Chennai-Gudur section.

Commemorative stamp

He released a commemorative stamp and flagged off a DC/AC EMU coach for Mumbai suburban network, designed by the ICF. He announced a joint cash incentive of Rs. 20 lakh to ICF employees for the golden jubilee.

Minister of State for Railways R. Velu said that about 325 route km in Tamil Nadu would be converted in the current financial year.

Earlier C. Kuppusamy and K. Malasamy, MPs, and Arcot Veerasamy and B. Ranganathan, MLAs, appealed to the Railway Minister to sanction adequate funds for early completion of railway projects in the State.

Secretary of Posts U. Srinivasaraghavan, who handed over a commemorate stamp album to the Railway Minister, said the Postal Department was happy to associate with a premier public sector unit of the country on this significant occasion. .

The ICF General Manager, P. Raja Goundan, said that heavy rain in the city had affected the production schedule in the factory but it was compensated now. The factory would meet its target of rolling out about 1100 coaches in the current financial year.
