HERB FOR ALL OCCASIONS: Students of Hari Shree Vidyalayam explaining the significance of Tulasi at Project Day 2005 organised by the school.
CHENNAI: "Tulasi butter milk is very good for cold. Just for Rs. 2" says Aditya of Class Two of Hari Shree Vidyalayam. "You can try our tulasi sandwich and vegetable salad," say Rahul and Sruthi of Class Three as they sold their products at a project day organised at their school Hari Shree Vidyalayam at R.A. Puram. With `Tulasi' being the theme, students explained various aspects of this wonder herb, which also plays a major role in Hindu culture. At another classroom, the Guruvayurappan shrine has been recreated. Here too Kirthivasan (Class I), his mate Priyanka and Preyaansh talk about different types of tulasi plant. Preyaansh Patel was demonstrating how to make tulasi soap. Farhan described the process of making Chinese basil tea. Medicinal value of tulasi was also explained in detail. A sound and light show on tulasi or the holy basil oil used in mummification process in ancient Egypt, and a muppet show on tulasi vivagam was presented by students. The highlight of the project was the documentary made by students of Class Four and Five using a handycam. A slide show and interactive computer quiz proved to be useful for all. According to Deivanai Muthuganesh, curriculum coordinator, "the project is more of a learning process for the school children and an opportunity to develop their talent and skills." The school children presented a dance drama, Thulasi Mahima on the occasion. M.A.M. Ramaswamy, Industrialist and Pro-Chancellor, Annamalai University, and Geetha Muthiah, Director, Hari Shree Vidyalayam participated.
