NICE completes stretch between Mysore Road, Kanakapura Road

  • The BDA was scheduled to begin work in June
  • Rs. 56 crores was supposed to be spent on the project to be completed by early 2007
  • The 109-km-long road is being designed for allowing it to have up to eight or 10 lanes on either direction

Bangalore: Work on the Peripheral Ring Road planned by the Bangalore Development Authority is delayed.

Meanwhile the peripheral road taken up by the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise Limited has completed one of its main stretches of over 12 km between Mysore Road and Kanakapura Road, the company said.

The BDA was scheduled to begin work on the peripheral ring road in June when part of the 3,800 acres of land was already in the process of being acquired. The P.S. Thomas Committee, an independent authority set up by the Government to examine the draft comprehensive development master plan 2015, had recommended that "optimum use" of land be made for the peripheral ring road as well as the proposed core inner ring road, while open land was still available.

    Widening

In the case of the core inner ring road, there can only be widening of roads linking Trinity Circle with other roads, bypassing the central business district.

The BDA was to have spent Rs. 56 crores on the peripheral ring road and completed it by early 2007.

The plans provide for six lanes on either direction with three underpasses and two flyovers.

The road is to link all the major highways and roads from the city, such as Hosur Road, Old Madras Road, Mysore Road, Kanakapura Road, Tumkur Road, Bellary Road, Magadi Road, Sarjapur Road and Bannerghatta Road.

Vehicles in transit, especially buses and trucks are to be confined to the peripheral road, bypassing the city proper. It will also link all the outer suburbs, making it easier for their residents to drive into the city.

According to BDA engineers, the 109-km-long peripheral ring road is being designed for allowing it to have up to eight or 10 lanes on either direction.
