Security will be given to Abu Salem if Mumbai police ask for it, says Sial

Staff Reporter

  • Mumbai police yet to inform Bangalore police
  • Tests scheduled to start from tomorrow

BANGALORE: Adequate security will be given to Abu Salem if he is brought to Bangalore for the lie detector, brain mapping and narco analysis tests, said B.S. Sial, Director-General and Inspector-General of Police.

Reacting to reports that the Mumbai police will bring Abu Salem on Monday to conduct the tests at the Forensic Science Laboratory here from Tuesday, Mr. Sial said, "I am yet to get a call from the Mumbai police seeking security cover. If they ask us for security, we will provide it." He had no information about the Mumbai police's arrival, he added. Sources in the Forensic Science Laboratory on Saturday had disclosed that the Mumbai police would bring Abu Salem for the tests, to be conducted in connection with the murder of Pradeep Jain, a real estate agent, in Mumbai in 1995. The tests were scheduled to start from Tuesday, a senior official of the laboratory said. While the polygraph and brain mapping tests will be conducted at the laboratory, the narco analysis will be done at the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital. The Anti-Terrorist Squad of the Mumbai police had obtained permission from a TADA Court in Mumbai to conduct the narco analysis test, the official said.

    Not likely

However, sources in the State Intelligence Department said Abu Salem was not likely to be brought to the city during the week.

This is the second time this year that the Mumbai police are proposing to bring accused persons to the laboratory here. In September, they brought actress Preeti Jain and Naresh Pardesi, an aide of Maharashtra MLA, Arun Gawali.
