Prohibitory orders in Mysore district during counting of votes

Staff Correspondent

Victory processions have been banned

  • Counting of votes to begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday
  • Around 2,000 personnel have been deputed for the task

MYSORE: While the fate of candidates contesting the elections to the zilla and taluk panchayats will be decided on Tuesday, the authorities have imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). Victory processions have been banned in the district, except in Mysore City.

In a press statement here on Monday, Deputy Commissioner S. Selva Kumar said prohibitory orders will be in force from noon on Tuesday till midnight.

The ban orders will give no room for victorious candidates to take out processions after the results are announced, officials said. The district administration's decision to ban victory processions by imposing prohibitory orders follows a letter written by Superintendent of Mysore District Police Vipul Kumar to the Deputy Commissioner indicating the possibility of outbreak of violence .

Counting of votes will begin at various centres in the district at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Votes polled at taluk and zilla panchayat constituencies will be counted at the respective taluk headquarters.

Those polled in Mysore taluk will be counted at Maharani's Art College in the city.

Police personnel have been deployed to keep vigil around the counting centre. Around 2,000 personnel will be deputed for counting votes in the seven taluks of the district. The results of the taluk and zilla panchayats elections are expected to start trickling in from Tuesday afternoon. Polling held on December 19, was largely peaceful.
