Reporter's Diary

Wake up call for call centre staff

GRUESOME AS it was, the murder of a woman call centre employee has some beneficial fall out.

In an overnight drive, the city police charged more than 400 drivers of call centre vehicles for violating various traffic rules.

Another result has been that most call centres supervisors and travel desk executives are reportedly paying more attention to the needs of woman workers. In fact, many supervisors go out of their way to make sure women employee reach home safely.

What a pity that human consideration comes forth only after a tragedy strike.

Seasonal shopping

On Christmas day this year, one could see not just usual Santa Clauses in shopping malls. For some days before the festival, pavement stalls were hawking Santa Claus caps, bright red with white rimming.

So on December 25, you could see more shoppers than usual. Dad, mom, and kids included all in red cap going around.

One cannot wait for January 26 to come.

There could be tricolour caps flaunted. Or does the law forbid them?

Parking at market places

WITH PARKING space becoming one of the biggest worries of Bangalore's vehicle-owners, you might soon have agents selling such spaces in black.

In crowded commercial centres such as Brigade Road, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Residency Road and Commercial Street areas, you would be lucky to find a vacant place to park your motorcycle. As for cars, you better be there very early in the day. Perhaps, the lack of parking space would do a world of good for the physical health of their owners.

For instance, to shop on Commercial Street, you might have to park your car several hundred metres away and walk all the way to the busy road.

Drivers of cars, who often forget the art of walking, are forcibly reminded of that dying habit.

Wonder, whether bicycle makers found a market there. The other day, a company came out with a foldable bicycle, which could easily be placed in the boot of a car.

The driver would just have to park his car on Kamaraj Road, unfold his brand new bicycle and ride to Commercial Street. But then, if Commercial Street runs out of space for bicycle parking...
