Letters to the Editor
The article, `Democracy, modernity, and the Indian child' (Dec. 26), was brilliant. The writer has rightly said our educational system prevents a child from thinking and being creative. Education should prepare a child to face the unexpected in life, not just prepare him to clear entrance exams and land him a white-collared job.
Aparna P. Ramachandran,
* * * In our educational system, only report cards determine the brilliance of a child; marks are awarded only for quoting and rewriting. There is no room for creative or independent thinking. Learning should make children curious. As pointed out by the author, the teacher should make learning really enjoyable.
K. Kumarappan,
