A stain

This refers to the editorial, `The perils of science fraud' (Dec. 27), exposing the fraud behind South Korean scientist Hwang Woo Suk's claim to fame in the field of cloning. The editorial rightly emphasises the ethical concerns that need to be kept in mind while pursuing scientific research. Prof. Hwang's act is a stain on the global scientific community. It completely shakes the common man's trust in science.

Chandan Pansari,

The closing comment, "Surely, he's not the only one out there," is not in good taste. Such a sweeping statement, bringing the entire scientific community under a cloud, is hurting.

C.G. Senthilkumar,
Davis, California
