Tele-density exceeds 10
NEW DELHI:
The country's tele-density, that is, the number of phones per 100 persons, has, for the first time, crossed the double-digit mark, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) announced on Tuesday while releasing the performance indicators of telecom services for the quarter ending September 2005. With 11.3 crore fixed and mobile phones, the tele-density has entered double digits at 10.36 against 9.61 in the previous quarter. Private operators have cornered the majority share of the market. Their share is now 52 per cent as against 48 per cent for public sector phone companies.
