Belgaum: The Congress is likely to emerge as the single largest party in the Belgaum Zilla Panchayat in the results announced on Tuesday. The party has won 18 of the 32 seats as per the results announced till 8 p.m. There are 86 seats in the zilla panchayat. The BJP has won seven seats while the Janata Dal (Secular) too bagged seven. In the taluk panchayat elections, the Congress is maintaining lead in several places. According to results declared for 73 of the 335 taluk panchayat seats, the Congress has won 33. The Janata Dal (S) has won 11 seats while 10 have gone to the BJP. The Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) has won 14 taluk panchayat seats while the All India Progress Janata Dal has bagged two seats.
