Tiruchi Corporation strengthens e-governance system

Towards making the local body more people friendly

TIRUCHI: The Tiruchi Corporation has made significant improvements to its e-governance system towards making the local body more people friendly. An updated website, extension of online tax collection system for collection of underground drainage charges and facility to pay taxes through credit cards are among the major value additions to the system.

Residents can now pay their underground drainage service charges too under the online tax collection system through the computerised service centres of the Corporation or at over 20 select bank branches where the system is operational. Similarly, professional tax can also be paid through the system. The online payment system was available only for payment of property tax and water charges todate.

The extension of the system to cover the underground drainage service charges will come as a big relief for the residents who often face difficulties in remitting their dues to bill collectors in person.

The Corporation will soon launch a new facility under the online tax collection system wherein taxpayers can remit their dues through credit cards. The facility, likely to be introduced in the first week of January, will initially be available at the computerised service centre at the Corporation Main Office. The civic body, which was the first urban local body in the State to introduce the online system a couple of years back, has also got an upgraded website. The website that was launched initially was grounded due to certain technical difficulties over the past few months.

The website address have also been changed. The upgraded site www.trichycitycorporation.com has several new features such as application downloads, file/application tracking and online grievance registration. Applications for various services including issue of birth and death certificates, land development, trade licences can now be downloaded from the site. The technical upgradation of the site would make it more dynamic with enhanced data storage capacity, Corporation officials said.
