MYSORE: The Janata Dal (Secular) has suffered a setback in Mysore district with the Congress and the All India Progressive Janata Dal (AIPJD) sharing the spoils of a mixed electoral verdict in the Mysore Zilla Panchayat. Though neither the Congress nor the AIPJD have managed to secure a simple majority in the 46-member Mysore Zilla Panchayat, the Janata Dal (S), which held the reins of power in the previous body, has been pushed to third position. While the AIPJD had won 15 zilla panchayat seats, the Congress has secured 14 seats and is leading in two others. The Janata Dal (S) has won 9 seats . The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured two seats. Though the election results indicate a hung house, there is speculation about a post-poll understanding between the AIPJD and the Congress. The AIPJD has literally swept the polls in Mysore taluk, which is represented by the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the Assembly. The party's candidates have won seven out of the eight zilla panchayat seats and 21 out of the 29 taluk panchayat seats. The Congress secured three seats and the Janata Dal (S) bagged two seats out of the 29. The BJP secured one seat and independents bagged two seats. The Janata Dal (S) was overpowered in almost all taluks of the district except in Hunsur taluk, which is represented by G.T. Deve Gowda. The Janata Dal (S) managed to hold its own in Hunsur by winning 12 out of the 21 taluk panchayat seats. Congress bagged six seats while AIPJD and independent secured one seat each. In the 25-member T Narsipur taluk panchayat, Congress bagged nine seats while Janata Dal (S) bagged five seats. AIPJD secured three seats. The three independents who have won hold the key to the reins of power in the taluk panchayat. Congress has also secured seats in the 23-member H D Kote taluk panchayat .
