CHENNAI:
The therapeutic value of art was celebrated at `Marumalarchi' (renaissance), an exhibition of art by children from tsunami-affected areas in Tamil Nadu and Kerala at the Alliance Francaise last week.
The students displayed products and put up performances after attending a training programme conducted by World Vision. "After seeing children with signs of psycho-social trauma, we decided to help them express their emotions through various media," said Jayanth Vincent, director-media relation, World Vision India.
Drawings, handicrafts, masks, street theatre and karate were some of the ways in which the children chose to express themselves.
Around 300 children from various locations attended the two-weeks training programme. Of these children 30 came to Chennai to present their creative output.
The products displayed will be returned to the children.
Srinidhi Chidambaram, noted dancer, was the chief guest for the evening.
