NEW DELHI: The Delhi Cabinet has cleared the proposal of the State Transport Department to release Rs. 2 crores as interest subsidy to nearly 80 Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes transport operators who had bought CNG buses under the scheme of financial assistance for purchase of CNG buses. A decision to this effect was taken at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday evening. Later Ms. Dikshit said the amount of Rs.2.05 crores would be released as subsidy immediately by the Delhi Government in order to provide timely relief to the beneficiaries and to safeguard them from accumulated interest, including penal interestThe equal amount would be recouped as soon as the requisite amount is released by the Supreme Court.
