Letters to the Editor
In the editorial, `Saving lives with mangroves' (Dec. 28), you have rightly said the task before the Ministry of Environment and Forests is to strengthen the coastal regulation zone scheme to provide absolute protection to what is left of the ecosystem. However, this is not the task of just the Environment Ministry. Dykes and seawalls are being built and human settlements are being allowed close to the shore. The stipulation that no human activity should be allowed within 500 meters of the seashore is being violated with impunity.
