HYDERABAD: The police sounded an alert in the city on Wednesday night following the attack by persons suspected to be terrorists at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. Police Commissioner A.K. Mohanty said security at all strategic places in the city had already been stepped up following the blast at the Commissioner's Task Force office a couple of months ago. Though the persons behind the attack in Bangalore are yet to be identified, scientific laboratories and defence establishments here have been asked to be cautious.
Surveillance up
The Cyberabad police, under whose area many important science centres were located, also increased the surveillance. Coming a few days ahead of the Indian Science Congress and the AICC plenary scheduled to be held here, the attack forced the police to intensify security arrangements. Home Minister K. Jana Reddy directed officials not to take any chances in the wake of the Bangalore attack and step up bandobust arrangements for the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. CSIR Director-General R.A. Mashelkar expressed shock over the attack on scientists in Bangalore in which an IIT professor was killed. India was emerging as a leading country in science and technology and if such attacks occur it was a matter of deep concern.
CCMB chief shocked
Lalji Singh, Director, CCMB, also expressed shock over the incident and said one failed to understand the purpose behind the attack. India was strong scientifically and probably this was one of the reasons for the attack, he remarked.
